Title: Wiping The Tears Of Orphans Across The Land Through Your Support
About Us
Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization that provides care and support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). We make the best use of conventional approach with appropriate strategies and tools and the required social leverage to effectively deliver results in providing solutions to the problems of orphans in Nigerian society with particular attention to our chosen location. In this manner, we seek to create a positive environment that fosters the provision of the needed services to support vulnerable children. It is estimated that about 153 million children worldwide are orphans, according to reports by UNICEF. In response to this situation, we are poised to beat the record in our strive to solve problems of food and nutrition, health, education, housing and other key challenges for all orphans in our locality. The fact remains that we are ever ready to bring about foundational changes in the lives of the children since our existence, and by helping to address the problems of homelessness, poverty and the tendency to child labour for the children in the first place.
The management of the organization realizes that by providing them a home, the foundation is able to offset and eliminate the risks which affect their mortality rates. Also, it is able to provide them the opportunity for normal growth and development when compared to other children in the light of the social conditions around them. The foundation is committed to engaging relevant segments from health ministry to local government officials, community members, civil society, private sector, professional advisors to philanthropists’ entities to achieve it’s goals and objectives. The plan is to work with key constituents in remedying the situation before orphans and vulnerable children, and to seek to improve their lives to foster strong, resilient, vibrant and sustainable society. Indeed as local Non-Governmental Organization, it’s initiative is to exceed expectations in terms of our focus and work in our environment to transform orphanage services in Nigeria.
Our Perspective of Orphanage
Our definition of an Orphanage is in tune with the global perspective that an Orphanage is a residential institution whether holistic institution or group home devoted to the care of orphans and vulnerable children, who for any reason cannot be cared for by their biological parents. The idea is that such parents may be deceased, absent or abusive. This orientation is in consonant with the fact that orphans are vulnerable and at risk, if not supported and cared for. Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation concedes that most of those who have received this kind of assistance in time past are now part of all sectors of Nigerian society. They equally constitute members of different groups in the society whether in terms of class, ethnicity, religion and culture. Since most of them come from low income groups due to the pattern of life associated with their upbringing and the range of economic pressure on low income earners; the need for guidance becomes more serious and discrete in dealing with them.
Perhaps, the focus of the organization is to give orphans a good foundation to be able to deal with the sources of their vulnerability and be greatly prepared to confront the obstacles increasing the chances of poverty and orphanhood in the society. As an established entity, Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation takes into cognizance that an orphan is generally viewed as a child who has no surviving parent caring for him or her. There are causes of orphanhood which we have recognised and of which may constitute the various causes of death of a parent or both parents, thereby making a child an orphan. In the course of our endeavour, it is discovered that there is single parent orphan and also double parent orphan, in the context where the affected child has lost both parents. The basis of the orphanage is hinged on the background that there must be an element of care and support, if parents of affected children were to be alive.
Factors influencing Orphanhood
There are a lot of causal factors of orphanhood which can be attributed to the problem of existence of orphans in modern society. The catastrophic effects of this challenge to emerging society are felt globally. The common causes may range from hidden to the obvious, according to experts. For the sake of simplicity, the causal factors of orphanhood as informing our passion and desire to intervene as may be identified include the following among others:
- HIV/AIDS
- Non-AIDS related diseases
- Accidents
- Abandoned children as a result of socio-economic conditions
- Alcoholism and drug abuse
- Wars
- Natural Disasters
- Crime and violence
- Natural Causes
- Others

How we work
Changing the narrative about orphanage services in our environment has become an important issue to us in recent times. The management of our entity ensures team members demonstrate the needed commitment to helping communities in key locations in Nasarawa State to achieve the goal of providing assistance to the poorest and most vulnerable segments of Nigerian society through the social protection given to orphans and affected children. We partner with health service providers to ensure provision of care and support as orphans and vulnerable children are able to access quality healthcare services to ease their growth and development through positive attitude to work and commitment to duty. The members of our team try their best to establish trust and equitable relationships with network partners to take the whole scope of the cause of illnesses and diseases, and to explore all available means to prevent such occurrences as far as possible, in the search of solutions to prevailing situations in our immediate surroundings.
We work to encourage collaborations on all applicable initiatives to effectively respond to current and future needs and the challenges before the organization. We are committed to assisting stakeholders to accomplish their goals, while providing innovative solutions to grapple with challenges of attending to food and nutrition, housing, health, clothing, and education needs for the children. We apply creative thinking by encouraging participation in critical decision-making at all times. All relevant segments of the organization are carried along to soothe the atmosphere at work and promote friendly environment that responds to social, economic, environment and health needs of key stakeholders, staff and children in the home.
We monitor the society to reduce the tendency of having the eldest child in families without parents having him or her becoming breadwinner for the siblings. The expanding nature of the orphanage is in itself a reflection of our sensitivity to ensuing challenges that are characterised by poverty and the tendency of parents in the different families not able to have resources to medically respond to needs and otherwise prolong life for affected family members. We are continually inspired to offer a helping hand by saving eldest children from the frustrations or decisions that may lead them into crime and violence in their environments, where there are no more living parents.
What We Do
The thrust of our current engagement is to ensure the continuity of those basic values which make for genuine social protection in the country. The organization drives itself to be truly effective and promote lasting progress in having orphans to achieve a dwelling place with same socially acceptable conditions as other surviving children. Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation works toward the purpose of fostering sustainability and undertaking desirable intervention in tune with the needs of our times.
We also work to develop the leadership potentials of the young girls and boys through model parenting and use of folktales accustomed to traditional African society. Also, there are constant visits by motivated persons, well-trained service providers and those who support them spiritually. The continual response to the need for leadership and personal development is at the heart of every initiative to train, educate and transform the lives of orphans for sustainability.
Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation is guided by the experience of it’s pioneers, and in no distant time of it’s formal registration, it has achieved much than projected. The organization started with few number of children, but led by the vision of supporting and collaborating with all levels of the social protection networks, ranging from involvement of government institutions to frontline service providers and likewise by seeking to address mainline challenges through equitable services focused at helping to achieve the development and improvement of lives of all Orphans and affected children within our reach.
Where We Work
There is a great possibility that the number of children at Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation increases intermittently. Generally, it is reflected that the global orphan population is estimated to be between 143 and 210 million, and approximately 5,760 children join their ranks as orphans as each day passes by. This staggering number portends a harsh reality for countless affected children globally who cannot secure genuine care and protection from their parents. Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation aspires to work with partners in the immediate environment of operation to strengthen and raise desirable foundations of their care and support systems. We have been centred at North-Central Area of the country since our registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria to provide excellent services at Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa Sate. Some of our projects are not just unique, but undertaken with result-oriented measures to ensure proper safety and sound health for the children.

Obituary and Setback
A great setback had just been recorded with the sudden death of Sister Amarachi Onuwaike (Nee Ekeh) who took ill on Tuesday, 9th July, 2024; and was quickly taken to the hospital for medical attention, but as fate would have it, she suddenly passed on the following day, 10th July, 2024. The late Sister Amarachi had worked with Nasarawa State Primary Health Centre, Institute of Human Virology, Widows Against HIV/AIDS Foundation (WAAF), and Innovation Solution for Community Development among others. She dwelt on her wealth of experience when she founded Restored Destiny Orphanage Foundation with its existing facilities at Koroduma, One Man Village, Behind Gen Plaza, Karu L.G.A., Nasarawa Sate, Nigeria. She successfully managed the orphanage before her exit and final home call. She was a graduate of Industrial Chemistry from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Enugu, Nigeria and she is survived by her husband, Donatus, and four children including Fortune. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Occupied Rented Property
The orphanage presently occupies a landed property with a block building comprising of three different apartments linked together and with six different toilets and bathrooms for the children. There is equally a separate bungalow that is used for poultry farming, and it is about 10 metres away from the main gate and the store which is situated close to the front arena. In the large compound are two mango trees and a well for sourcing water for domestic uses. The key features in the compound are quite spaced from each other, thereby making for a serene atmosphere for safe operation for the orphanage facility.
Grappling with Challenges
It is only the Creator who understands the situation better with the demise of the founder of the organization at this time. Notwithstanding, to ensure continuity the new management has embarked on measures to sustain operations on earlier tempo based on the vision of the entity. The new management has been committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. In this regard, serious attention is being given to the people employed and the mission pursued with a focus on a critical path to lend it’s voice and contrive measures to effectively respond to emerging trends affecting orphanages in Nigeria. Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation looks forward to genuine partnership around its bounds and to cultivate the resources to effectively respond to the needs for care and support to orphans in its environment.
The management of the foundation has seen the need to have a permanent property to serve as residential home for the orphans. There is no doubt that to avoid any uncertainty, an appropriate action is required to reach out to some people to reflect and showcase the challenges of the home. Certainly, in addition to this, the orphanage needs a bus that can convey the children to the different locations, activities and events as occasion demands. Also, other needs include washing machine, deep freezer, and the fumigation of the environment, apart from regular wants that may constitute recurrent expenses. All relevant segments and well-wishers need to support us to fill these gaps at the moment. We warmly appreciate the previous efforts at keeping us at bay with the need to fulfill all expectations before us. This support should equally extend to building our capacity to achieve media mention in all sensitive areas that affect the life of our establishment.

Our fears
Our current fears include the fact that we didn’t have a permanent resident property. We don’t know when the owner of the property the orphanage currently occupies may come to claim the property. Some people are not willing to rent their property for too long a time, especially to interested persons who may have the intent of running orphanages. In practical terms, the orphanage pays rent of the place every year; and the annual rent is N600, 000 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) only, and it is expected that it must be taken care of when due.
Self-Help and Responsibility
The orphanage operates an internal poultry by which it achieves self-help and sufficiency in meat production or availability of meat for food.
